How To Tell Your Love Story Through Your Wedding Decor
How To Tell Your Love Story Through Your Wedding Decor
When it comes to deciding on your wedding details and decor, the options can be overwhelming. Between social media, Pinterest, Google searches, friends and family sending you texts with ideas... you might still feel like none of those REALLY suit you. These are other people’s ideas that have been done before... so how can you put a twist on decor ideas to tell YOUR unique story?
As a wedding venue, we have seen many different weddings with different colors, themes, and styles. While they have all been stunning in their own way, what really warms our hearts (and your guests too) is seeing your personality and your love story incorporated into the wedding decor.
So if you are planning the details your wedding and trying to choose from the endless ideas, stop and think about YOUR STORY. Here are some questions you can ask yourselves:
Who are you as individuals? (hobbies, taste in music, personality…)
Who are you together? (how do you compliment/balance each other’s lives, traits you share…)
How did you meet and/or grow as a couple?
What is something you connected with together?
What objects, colors, or themes would help tell others the answer to those questions?
You can take these answers and whether you use a designer or DIY, you should be able to come up with some fun ways to completely personalize your wedding day.
Here are some examples of how some of our couples have shared their unique story and personalities here at The Preston Barn!
This first one is a more common way that we get to see a part of your story. We’ve seen many versions of this, but none of them ever looking the same! It is a way to share the date your relationship began, the date you got engaged, and the date you are getting married, like a love story timeline. Nicole & Daniel used a chalkboard matching their wedding colors and style, and added in some adorable photos.
This one is too cute! Fun facts about the couple on cocktail napkins! This is a great way to give insights on your deep connection and personalities. Laura & George definitely answered some of the questions we shared earlier with these for their wedding day. It also gave guests something to talk about while mingling during cocktail hour!
Seating charts and escort cards are good place to add a piece of your story. At Arlene and Tony’s wedding, their fur-babies helped the guests “fetch” their seats. Adorable! It helped guests to learn that they are dog lovers and already share their own little family at home.
This country wedding told us a lot about this couple’s lifestyle. Country living and hunting is a major part of Lauren and Ethan’s story and everyday life… so naturally, lots of antlers. Very fitting for the barn, we must say!
Melissa and Chris devoted an entire table to telling their story. It included some of their favorite photos together, their special dates, an image of the star patterns on their wedding night, and the coordinates from where they met!
Melissa and Chris once again… they are big Harry Potter fans! They had the logo put on their guest book Jenga set, and even had their own Harry Potter-style custom monogram made and put it on drinking glasses for their table. A fun twist on the traditional champagne flutes!
Suzanne and Gus also put a twist on the traditional champagne flutes with these personalized goblets to match their Game of Thrones inspired wedding day!
Of course, it went way beyond goblets. Suzanne and Gus also used their seating chart, table names, and menus to fit the theme of a major common interest they share. The guests really felt like a part of their world sitting at the long, feast-style tables and participating in a dragon egg scavenger hunt!
The engagement story is usually something interesting to share. Everybody wants to know the story of how “she said yes”! Lauren and Ethan used this nice frame and a photo of that special moment and placed it on a table with other decor (and everything about this was true to their country rustic style wedding)!
Lots and lots of photos! We love this rustic photo display from Alicia and Cody’s wedding! There’s no easier way to tell a good story than through photos documenting your relationship from the very beginning. Guests love to look at them and reminisce about what they remember of these times, see the adventures you’ve been on together, and feel more excited and blessed to be a part of your story.
